Councillor George Grubb

Cllr George Grubb, Edinburgh's first ever Liberal Democrat Lord Provost

History was made today as Cllr George Grubb became the first ever Liberal Democrat Lord Provost of Edinburgh.

George has been a councillor on Edinburgh City Council since 1999. He is a respected and well-liked member of the Council and is held in high regard in the community following many years as a church minister.

On his appointment, Cllr Grubb said: "There is no other city in the world like Edinburgh and it will be an honour to serve it as Lord Provost.

"I am looking forward to duties of Lord Provost, including being the civic face of Edinburgh. My aim is to Chair the Council in an even-handed and disciplined way and I looking forward to meeting with various groups and organisations and welcoming visitors to the city."

The Liberal Democrats replaced Labour as the largest party on Edinburgh City Council following the May 3rd elections. The council will now be run by a Lib Dem / SNP administration.
