Kevin Lang and the Liberal Democrats want police - not pointless pieces of plastic.

Liberal Democrats have attacked today's decision by the Labour Government to push ahead with the roll out of identity cards, starting with Manchester this autumn.

The UK Government continues to propose spending billions of pounds to force law abiding people to carry ID cards while criminals go free.

That's why the Liberal Democrats would abolish Labour's expensive and pointless ID card scheme and spend the money on things that will actually help ordinary law abiding people across the country.

The Lib Dems would put 10,000 more police on patrol across the UK and give local people the power to close down pubs and clubs that cause anti-social behaviour. We want to make prisons work to cut down on reoffending.

Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Kevin Lang has collected thousands of names on his petition to stop identity cards. He said,

"Labour's mismanagement of the UK economy has left a crisis in the public finances. It is utter lunacy for them to pursue a policy of wasting billions of pounds on unnecessary and intrusive ID cards shows, a position supported by our local Labour MP here in Edinburgh North & Leith

"Every week, I speak with local people who are deeply concerned about crime in their community. People want more police - not laminated pieces of plastic that will do nothing to tackle crime."
