Stronger together, poorer apart - Liberal Democrats launch European Election campaign10.57.16pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 12th May 2009
Local Lib Dems back hard working campaigner George Lyon to be Edinburgh North & Leith's newest MEP. The Liberal Democrats have launched their campaign for the European Elections on Thursday June 4th. The European elections are a big choice for Britain. We can turn away from our friends in Europe and face the economic storm, climate change, rising crime and the threat of terrorism alone. Or we can choose to work with our allies for a safer, stronger world, from which we will all benefit. For Liberal Democrats the decision is simple. Britain can and should lead in Europe, making our country more prosperous, championing a brighter, safer future both at home and abroad. We are stronger together and poorer apart. Many people across Scotland are using the elections on 4th June to send the Labour and SNP governments a message that their handling of the economy is not good enough. The Scottish Liberal Democrats are offering a stronger team for Scotland, real change for Scotland in Europe, wanting to work alongside other countries to boost trade, creating new jobs as well as getting stronger action on international crime and climate change. We need to to be positive about what Scotland and Britain can achieve by working with other countries. Our candidate George Lyon has a strong record of action and will keep up this good work when elected as our MEP. He, along with the other Liberal Democrat MEPs will fight hard for you, to secure action on international crime, creating new jobs and on climate change. A vote for the Scottish Liberal Democrats will send a strong message to Gordon Brown and the Labour Party that enough is enough, it's time for change. Tavish Scott MSP, Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, added, "The European elections offer a clear choice. A strong Scottish voice working with Europe to tackle economic turmoil, climate change and cross border crime together or no change with other parties. "A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a positive vote for change. Labour's recession, rising unemployment under the SNP and Tory isolationism means now, more than ever, we must work with Europe to make Scotland strong and safe."
