By 10pm tonight, Edinburgh North & Leith will have a Labour MP or a new Liberal Democrat MP - Kevin Lang
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 6th May 2010
The polls are open today between 7am and 10pm for you to cast your vote. Remember, you do not need your polling card to vote.
By 10pm this evening, either the current Labour MP will have been re-elected or local resident Kevin Lang will be our new Liberal Democrat MP.
The Conservatives and SNP have already given up here before the polling stations opened. Conservative councillor and former General Election candidate Peter Crerar admitted that the Liberal Democrats were the clear challengers to Labour. The SNP candidate refused to include our area on a list of obvious targets for his party.
So the choice today is simple - a Labour MP who will back Gordon Brown or a new hard working local Liberal Democrat MP who will stand up for our area in and out of Parliament.
Speaking today, Kevin Lang said, "This has been a long and hard fought campaign and I want to thank everyone for the wonderful reception they have given me and my team as we have gone round campaigning.
"I really want to be a hard working local MP for this, the community in which I live with my wife and baby daughter. I think this is a great place to live but there are many problems needing solved and many challenges needing faced.
"We are extremely lucky to live in an area where every vote really will count today. Everyone is expecting a very close result, with only a handful of votes perhaps deciding the outcome. So whoever you vote for, whoever you support, I hope you will go out and cast your vote today."
